1942               30th October – Chamal Jayantha Rajapaksa is born

1948               Gains admission to Richmond College Galle

1960               Successfully passes the Junior School Certificate Examination

1962               Successfully passes the Senior School Certificate Examination

1962               Begins training at Diddenipotha Estate Hakmana

1963               Gains admission to the Police Training Academy

1964               Appointed as a Sub Inspector to the Bandarawela Police Station

1965               Transfers to the Moneragala Police Station

1966               Transfers to the Badulla Lunugala Police Station

1967               Passing away of his beloved father Mr. D. A. Rajapaksa

1969               Joins Prime Minister Mr. Dudley Senanayake’s personal security service

1970               Joins Prime Minister Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranayake’s personal security service

1972               Retires from the Police Force

1972               Joins the State Development and Construction Corporation as the Chief Security Officer

1975               5th January – Marries his loving wife Chandra Rajapaksa

1975               Joins the State Trading (General) Corporation as an Assistant General Manager

1985               Directly enters politics by contesting for the Mulkirigala seat at the By-Elections

1989               Enters Parliament for the first time by representing the Hambantota District and winning at the General Election

1994               Victorious at the General Election yet again by representing the Hambantota District

1998               Appointed as the Deputy Minister for Agriculture

2000               Sworn in as the Deputy Minister for Southern and Ports Development

2001               Serves as an Opposition Member of Parliament after the November General Election

2004               Sworn in as the Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries in the People’s Alliance Government

2005               Sworn in as the Minister of Agriculture Development after the Presidential Election

2005               Appointed as the Chairman of the Hambantota District Development Committee

2006               Appointed as the Minister of Irrigation and Water Resource Management

2007               Sworn in as the Minister of Ports, Aviation, Irrigation and Water Resource Management

2010               22nd April – Unanimously elected as the 19th Speaker of the 07th Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka
