A new bridge to Gonagamuwa

Hon.Speaker of Parliament Chamal Rajapakse states that if a person enters politics, such a person should possess the ability to foresee the future of the country to about 25 to 30 years and if not they should not do politics. He stated this idea participating in a ceremony recently (2014 January 06) to lay the foundation stone to construct a new bridge across Kirindi Oya connecting the two villages of Gonagamuwa and Rathnelummalyaya in Tissamaharamaya. The required funds for this project will be provided by the Ministry of Economic Development. Minister of special projects Hon. S. M. Chandrasena, Member of southern provincial council Hon. Siripala Jayaweera, Mr. A Weeraratne, project director to president, Mr. Harsha Jayaweera chairman of the Tissamaharama Pradeshiya Sabha and many others participated in this occasion.

The iron bridge which facilitated the villagers to go across Kirindi oya was damaged by the floods in the year 2012.As a result the school children and around 3000 families had to face severe inconveniences related to transport. As a solution to this situation, action has been taken under the Gama neguma project of Maga neguma programme to construct a bridge consisting of one lane and it has been planned to complete the construction within a period of 03 months. Further, Hon. Chandrasena stated that initial action has been taken to construct 210 bridges island wide and 03 bridges out of this will be constructed in Hambantota.
